CF Motorsport's Jake Dixon was once again celebrating after completing another fantastic double at round 2 of the British Supersport Cup at Thruxton. Dixon was once again battling with the top Championship contenders as he finished both races inside the top ten, for the second week running.
In friday's wet practice, Dixon was impressive as he posted the second fastest time. As the track began to dry, throughout the afternoon session, Dixon opted to remain in the garage. The team felt there was little to be gained from running in the cold and damp conditions. Dixon qualified his CF Motorsport Yamaha 11th fastest on Saturday, the best placed of the Cup runners.
Shortly after qualifying, the rain returned, eventually causing the cancelation of the afternoon's sprint race. The torrential downpour had left much of the track under standing water, meaning there was no safe way to race. In the rescheduled sprint race, Dixon put on another fine display. He led the Cup field from the start and when the race was red-flagged on lap 7, Dixon was 8th overall.
Dixon again dominated the Cup in the afternoon's feature race, leading from start to finish. This time he was able to make the break with the leaders, as a group of ten pulled clear of the rest of the field. He couldn't quite sustain the pace over the last couple of laps but took the chequered flag in 10th. After two rounds, Dixon has a commanding lead in the Cup standings and remains 8th in the overall Championship.
Tommy Mountain unfortunately crashed out of the Superstock 600 race at Seagrave on lap 13. He qualified 27 and was fighting his way up through the field when he high-sided on the penultimate lap.
Jake Dixon: "We have had another great weekend; two top tens and winning both of the Cup races. You can't be disappointed with that. It's a bit of an eye opener when it's only the second time you've been here and you're out there with some really experienced supersport riders. The CF Motorsport team are working really hard and we made another step closer to the front guys. We are making headway all the time. I still feel like I've got a bit more to come too. Hopefully, before long we can be stood on that main podium."
CF Motorsport team boss, Craig Fitzpatrick: "Jake has been superb again this weekend. He has really taken the step up to the supersport class in his stride. It has been a great start to the season and hopefully we can continue to move forward. I would like to thank my sponsors for their continued support, in particular PacedayZ, Close Brothers, Bowie Construction and Microtech."
